Welfare Analyst

Description: The Welfare Fund Analyst is responsible for providing day-to-day clerical support and analysis of information from the Welfare staff relating to Claims, Eligibility and Subrogation. This role is based in the Downers Grove office. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily within the 90-day review period. If individual is retained after the 90-day review period, there will be an expectation to learn additional Claims and Eligibility Department duties including Medical/HRA/Loss of Time Claims Processing, Eligibility and Benefit Verification in an agreed upon timeframe.
Essential Claims Functions
• Working with Claims manager and staff on certain clerical duties including:
o Monitor the Benefits email inbox and distribute or forward to appropriate staff members
o Monitoring and distributing certain documents received daily from BCBS
o Printing and mailing Welfare claims EOBs and other outgoing mail
o Daily filing, attaching and scanning duties of medical claims, eligibility documents, and other paperwork.
o Assist with organization of paper files and preparations of files for scanning.
o Assist with Welfare appeals process including acknowledgement letters, redaction and decision letter mailings
Essential Subrogation and Subpoena Functions
• Working with Claims manager regarding Subrogation correspondence including:
o Creating initial, follow up, and closure letters to attorneys or members for manager audit and review
o Creating claim reports for manager audit and review
• Work with department managers to prepare response documents for subpoenas, class action lawsuits, and appeals when applicable
Essential Eligibility Functions
• Assisting with the Eligibility process including:
o Creating new members in ISSI and their corresponding new member files
o Updating ISSI notes when indicative documents are received
o Sending out new member packets and temporary insurance cards from daily reports
o Creating, printing and mailing quarterly contribution statements and self-payment notices for active and retired members.
o Creating, printing and mailing monthly COBRA and HRA Enrollment forms, as needed
o Entering self-payments
o Reviewing and creating Retiree eligibility for new retirees
o Entering Welfare Work Comp or LOT hours for disabled members
• Operate office machines like personal computers, scanners, photocopies, facsimile machines, mail machines, and voice mail systems
• Handling time-sensitive material and confidential mail/packages
• Regularly adhere to business procedure guidelines
• Obey all safety procedures
• Performs other duties as required
Job Requirements and Skills
• Medical Billing and Coding certificate or a Medical Terminology certificate from an accredited Program or University. (both preferred, one mandatory)
• Previous work in a healthcare setting including but not limited to hospital, physicians’ office, surgical center, retail/walk-in clinic (preferred)
• 3-4 years of prior clerical experience (preferred)
• Proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel and open to learning new technology
• Knowledge of ISSI platform is a plus
• High degree of professionalism
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
• Excellent oral and written skills
• Must be detailed oriented
• Work independently and as part of a team
• Proficient at multi-tasking in a fast-past environment
• Demonstrate friendly and cooperative attitude and maintain high level of customer care
Job Type: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday
Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour, dependent on experience
